A Tacoma Train T Shirt and Me !

The world is awash....in T shirts.....The world is choked with T shirts.....we must control them.....we must subdue and make them do what we say ! I love to cut them up into other stuff.....

So here we have a simple re-construct to do on 2 t shirts......I have a black T shirt I really like but for the silly mass-produced thingie in the middle of the chest. My Tacoma Train T shirt is one of my faves....so, let's combine the 2 ........

So first cut the center part out of the black one, and use that for the pattern for the white one......uh, measure well.....so that your insert will fit in the "original T"........

then sew the center part to the "original T"....careful pinning or even basting is essential here at this step.....ya wanna make sure your t shirts line up at the hemlines.....you will be cutting them to a nice pleasing shape.....and adding some lace.......

Ok, side inserts sewn in.........now is the time to make a pleasing curve for a neckline.....and the hem can be altered with the same treatment or more fun edgings...you know me....I'll be back with more fun stuff to torture the unsuspecting simple t shirt........
When you add some stretchy lingerie lace to a neckline, if it's a knit there is a simple rule.......
Measure the neckline without stretching, and cut your stretchy lace without stretching to be the same length but for 1 inch. In other words, cut the lace one inch shorter than your neckline measurement. This shortening of the lace will pull the neckline to lay flat against your body as it stretches along the neckline of the t shirt.
Begin pinning the lace at a shoulder seam....or at the center back of the neckline...whichever you choose, and pin the center of the lace to the center front of the t shirt's neckline, then evenly stretch and distribute the lace around the neckline. When you sew it, use a simple tiny zigzag, or if you have a fancy-schmancy machine with stretch stitches.....now is the time to Show Off!
Here we go.....Simple, reconstructed.....and it goes fast girlfriend.......

Here's one I made ! it's on etsy. the long straps go around the neck and come around and tie

2)Marilyn rocked the halter bodice back in the 50s, but it came back big in the 70s…..which is your favorite era for the halter?
Well what's not to love about Marilyn...but in the 70s I was young and good looking...and wore this! it's also on etsy....

3)Bare backs are vulnerable, what’s your suggestion for protecting skin from the sun?
I'm gonna try some of that new Spray On sunscreen.....and lucky me, I have a husband that will be pressed into service...but those who go stagette, I suggest shade, a tall cool drink and shine when the patio lights come on.....

4)Halter as top or dress, whats your preference?
I like tops and dresses.....

5)A bra can be a challenge…..best suggestion for support?

I only wear a halter if it has a bra inside...of some sort. boobs are nice, but the girls must stand up and not slump....not an attractive look !

See What I made....OOps I did it again....

Oooooops ! I did it again….

Oopps I Did It Again…….
I cut the maxi…..
Yes I am guilty…..Maybe you don’t travel in the same circles I do…..I go round and round….and I find tons of maxi’s. I buy them for the great prints and I cut them up if they have damage or in this case…I have a yearning…..for a cute summer set like this~~

begin

I had a set like this when I was kid in the late 50s. It had the most glorious cotton sateen print for the top, and a dreamy summer sky blue for the little capri pants. I started with this maxi lounger. Isn’t the fabric a beauty? It’s made of an acetate, so it’s easy to care for.
Choose a maxi that is several inches larger than your personal measurements especially at the hips. The curved crotch seam will take up another 10 inches or so. If you measure 38″ at the hips, choose a long dress that measures at least 48″ at the hips for the seams.

sewn a bit

more sewing
I have a pair of pants that are a little too big for me…..so I laid them along the fold on the skirt part and cuffed them to make a capri length, and I cut an inch outside the lines. I made sure the hem was lined up perfectly…..don’t be afraid to pin…..I tend to be somewhat fearless. Chop it off just above a button for proper proportions.

cute !

I used only a quarter inch for the seams. Since I used a pinking shears, I won’t have to worry about seam finishes and raveling. Then I sewed the back seam and inserted a zipper. Then the front seam, and I sewed on a line of elastic on the waist, then turned it under and hemmed. I also hemmed the top.
cute !
cute !

Well here she is! Acute pair of capris and a matching top.

cute !

Post TAX day eVintageSociety Blog Tag !

This week on the eVintage Society Blog tag - be sure to check out for her take on the latest "fashion" device......
The Maxi Dress !!

Oh Sure....for the last 2 years or so....the fashion mags have shown Maxis! not the pads...no......the fun long dresses that last had a resurgence in the 70s.....and again in the early 90s........This time they're calling them Patio Dresses !
I don't have a patio....I have a parking lot. Onward.....

MAXI OR PATIO DRESS, AND WHY?
I really hate the word maxi, but it's burned into the brain......I'll use Patio dress.....though it will likely get mixed up with the Fiesta (squaw) Dress of the 40s and 50s !!
oh vey!

FAVORITE MAXI DRESS IN YOUR INVENTORY?
I love 'em.....Here's one that will be on auction soon!

AS A TREND, WILL IT BE A HIT OR A MISS?
If they aren't too tight, but flowing, I think most gals can wear them. But I don't think it will catch on, but for nighttime parties in the summer.

DO YOU WEAR MAXI DRESSES OR SKIRTS?
I'm rather gothy and romantic.....so yes yes yes.....

PROS AND CONS?
The nasty nasty bulletproof polyester ones with Mother of the Bride tendencies need to die...or at be least cut into a mini !!
Pros: covers a multitude of sins! Looks pretty and graceful and dramatic.
Cons: If they're too long, and you don't perfect the proper pull-up-the-skirt when walking up or down stairs, you will fall on your face. Not sexy !

Coming up for auction on 4/9 in the evening is a genuine Real ... 60s Scooter Dress. It isn't sleek......It's Fun ! and it is so perfect for spring scooter or bicycle riding !

* WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?

Purple !! Yes, the color of Queens......Queen --- the lady, not the borough or the band....
* WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BRIGHTLY COLOURED PIECE IN YOUR INVENTORY?

Well I should say this Malcolm Starr that I had to dye purple.....
But I'm gonna go with this 50s RED gown..I love how the skirt is sooooo big !!

* WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO ADD COLOUR TO AN OUTFIT?

If it's not warm outside, I always tie one on .... A Scarf that is ! I love a long fringey number...or if it's not scarf weather , then I''ll tie one on my purse straps.
Here's a bright one from The Vintage Peddler .....and it's a Vera!

* WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOUR TO WEAR?

That totally depends on my mood and the weather...right now I'm wearing a lot of purple, lilac, lavender, with shades of blue and green....Pansies do it......Why not me ??

* WHAT COLOUR ARE YOU WEARING RIGHT NOW?

I'm wearing a lot of black, which is truly my default base color......I just adore a black background print, especially anything with leaves..... and I have dozens of things with that motif.

* WHAT COLOURS DO YOU DECORATE WITH?

Back in Junior High, we had to make our Dream Bedroom in a shoebox. I chose beige carpet, walls and bedspread.....dreary huh? But I jazzed it up with print curtains, bright pillows, colored lamps, and lots of colorful accessories cut from Seventeen magazine. That's when I discovered my decorating schemes are called "Accented Neutral".....and that is my personality also!

Every room always has a leopard something.....The BEST print ever !!!

Well that was fun! On to Vintage Bulletin !
