I Can't go Naked, this isn't a desert island...

I have clothes, but sometimes I stare at my closet and can't find anything to wear!
That's when I know I have to spend an afternoon just trying things on, with accessories and the proper shoes......
to, you know,
Play Dress Up with myself.
As the months go by, my color favorites change, the weather gets warmer or cooler, and I simply grow tired of certain things.

I try combinations that are not your usual Cuppa Tea, because, well, sometimes the ordinary can be quite boring...

to wit:
50s atomic pattern dress is basic enough to toss some very interesting accessories at it....or it can be a pure copy of a 50s gal...paired with a hot yellow cardigan, yellow pumps and purse.....or something unusual.............your choice!
I've paired it with a handmade tote to pick up the yellow in the dress print....a fun handmade bag.

Interesting shoes eh? Simple oxfords with a twist.......
Black and shiny, they bring the outfit down to earth in a gothic manner.

Or 70s banana platform slingbacks!

Going a bit more conservative....I love pieces that match and mix.......

Here's 2 basic suits....exquisite fabric and work. If you are used to buying your clothes at a mall store or bought new anytime in the last 15 years, You have been cheated!
In contrast....the fabrics....the details.....the overall quality of vintage will just blow your mind. Clothes started to become very cheaply made....throw-away actually.....in the 70s. I'm not gonna count the paper dresses of the 60s.........

I'm talkin' about so many shortcuts while sewing a garment together that it had no seam allowances, shoddy button sewing, and such a lack of cute details. The recent inflow of cheap garments from places like China has really given clothing a bad name!

These 2 suits are designer names, a classic military influenced chocolate brown Escada set and for the adorable 60s set, Curilette Originals from San Francisco have workmanship that is in the same class as the most famous designers of today and the kind of clothes that used to have those finishing touches that you can only find today in tailored made, or very expensive.

Both are in quality wool, and are in colors that can be worn 4 seasons a year. In summer, the jackets would work with sheer florals and flowing lace summer dresses, to cover bare shoulders when the air conditioning is too cold, or when a late summer evening gets a bit of a chill.

I love them both with rustic huaraches city sandals.....or classic wingtip flats.

Pair the pieces with black, white, creams or other pastels....
and get your fashion dollar worn wisely.......

Which is another reason to buy vintage!
Clothes that will last longer than a half-season.
Most of the clothes made in the last decade will end up in the landfill. But these, for instance, have been worn and now can be added again to a wardrobe for another time around, and then, can be passed on to another generation.

The cut of this 60s suit, this jacket in particular, is curvy.......look at how the bottom button is inset just a bit.....and not to mention the classiness of bound buttonholes.
This looks as lovely with pearls and chains as it would with a necklace of chunky polished agates, or a fat 60s floral brooch. It doesn't have to team up with a skirt.....a great pair of jeans or a floral dress is just as appealing.

A skirt........A blouse........both cute and both vintage.

The Cream Is Sweet

I love you Neutrals...I love you Texture ! Don't be mad just because I mostly wear Black...I am switching off to Gray now!
It must be my Amelia Earhart obsession.....
all that brown leather...those tall leather lace-up boots, the sepia photos and the neutral tones, jodphurs, floral silk scarf.......

that is such a demure picture of Amelia...the sweet sweater, the pleated skirt...the scarf.....you knew it!

Here's a sweet cream vintage mohair cardy I just added to the line up in my etsy shop. A classic style and so wearable almost all year long.....

So my flowers are all abloom....yes, it's true, but on Monday the Snow Level dropped to 300 ft (above sea level) so many parts of Puget Sound got a bit of a dusting....
We went from 65 to 31 degrees in the last few days.......

I adore the 50s gray and navy plaid Harris Tweed coats, the deep tweeds, but I think it's time to add some lighter colors to the daily wool wardrobe now.

60s Butter and Clover mohair sweater....

Ultra Fluffy Angora.....

50s circle skirt with a modern metallic scribble print.....

70s Kimberly geometric nerdy sporty style....

I just listed several warm yet cheery colors to my etsy shop.

Pale straw sweater....

Banana Republic safari dress...always a favorite for me !

Aquascutum cashmere polo sweater:

a Bonnie Cashin jacket I'm tempted to keep.....

Myself, I'm keeping this and this and this...they have some pale spots...so I don't think I want to sell them as-is..the shoes are too new for etsy, I think, and they're Mary Janes...so I must keep them, for a while.

Bunny Tailcoat........

begin the adventure with a simple 70s coat.....
cut away parts that are not needed, and add lots of lace.

Pour out those cans of buttons and sew many on.

Make a pin of lace and vintage and a key with a heart.

Alice or the Rabbit?
or did you have another dream in mind?

the back has a french blue toile applique with a vintage shell button, long cotton fringe and blue edging, with lots of vintage lace.
The sides have tabs that close with antique abalone buttons......
to pull the waist in a bit....

the lining is sheer matching satin, and I added an inside pocket. The outside pocket is turned askew since it all has to do with new perspectives, anyway......

This pocket has lace, stitching in blue, lots of cotton fringe and a odd vintage googley button.

I changed the collar around so you can button it up......or leave it open........

Oh My little tiny Greekish garden...

Whilst I was in the tiny garden on Monday planting the nasturtium seeds several folks said Hi ! and let me know they were so happy to see a sweet little thing in the midst of brokeness and leftovers.
Daniel was entranced by this sleepy little bee ! He gave it a voice "Hey you said it was Spring!"
(Nature has been tricking us all lately!)

I don't mind the busted ness of downtown.....it's kinda interesting......I love to look over the edge down to the parking lot next to the Spanish Steps...It's a dizzying view! and then lift my eyes to The Old City Hall......the bluest sky and the cotton clouds.......and the beautiful saltyness.....the industry of burly men and determined women........

My my my...Industrious little daffs......went from this on February 23.......to.......

This on March 1 !!

The pansies and the primroses are spritely !

I adore how this little daff is folded......so much like a butterfly emerging from a coccoon..

Most of the daffs are King Alfred type, but there are a few renegades mixed in.....I wish I'd have planted a bag or 3 or 7 of Poet's Narcissus...they are my favorites of the Narcissus.......I adore the teeny minis also........

Narcissus flowers are named for the son of the River God, Cephissus and Leiriope, a nymph, in Greek mythology.........This boy Narcissus was a hawt babe according to legend. A prophet told Leiriope her son would live long and prosper if he avoided ever seeing himself in a reflection.
The boy had many women and men (this is a Greek legend) fall in love with him as he grew up into a man, but he chose none of them for a lover.

A nymph, Echo, who had her own curse to deal with, goddess Hera made poor Echo repeat again the last words she heard said to her.......loved Narcissus. But he did not have eyes for her!
Ameinias, another hopeful lover was also rejected by the handsome Narcissus, and Ameinias killed himself. Just before taking his life he asked for the gods to punish the sexy beast Narcissus.
The gods then set Narcissus to gaze on his loveliness in a clear pond......He fell in love with himself!
When he went to touch the beautiful image, he fell in and drowned......or he killed himself also....we're not too clear on that.
The gods thought the tragedy (this is a Greek legend) ought to be commemorated......and so named the lovely yellow late winter flower.......Narcissus.

Let this be a lesson to you Pretty People....Love one another....and don't be stuck-up!
