Extraction Industry

finding good vintage is so like diamond mining.......or at least you know, metal detection....tin can kicking....cloud-watching...tornado chasing....Hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait.....Look what the universe provided this week...Lots of pretty sundresses....and some nice men's vintage...and lots more to come, because the mining has been berry berry good to me ;-) cutest vegetable print in bright pastels. Carrots, Radishes, Beets, Tomatoes....and more on a blue 1970s vintage dress in crisp cotton with a 50s rockabilly style.

Pink cosmos garden sundress...........

Pretty blossoms in hot pink, magenta, lilac and baby pink, with turquoise and teal leaves. I show it with a crinoline, but it can surely be worn without...and would look so summery with a pair of leather sandals and a straw bag.

Gunne Sax.........Ruffled lace and sheer voile create an enchanted romantic vintage 1970s dress...pale lilac with tiny sprigs of white...

Jams World ! always a popular choice !

Pretty sundress has elastic puckers on the back with a long zipper....and it has 2 hidden pockets on the side seams of the skirt.

I Like it Fast and Easy

One Pan Lasagne. Really.
hey, let's eat. I do like to eat. but....I don't really like to cook. I do like to bake. This is one of my favorite recipes for One Pan Lasagne. Oh sure, you say. No wait ! This is ONE PAN. Not a big pot, and a colander, and  a baking pan...Oh no no no. One pan. Put in oven. Bake. Eat.
....back in the olde days I took great pride in my ability to get dinner on the table by 6 ish. I was so organized! with 3 kids and an ex that thought feeding the family was as easy as calling out for pizza delivery, I had to stay organized, and collect fast, easy and cheap, and oh yeah, mostly vegetarian and super-healthy recipes.
These days, I do make a good dinner, and we eat well, but .....let's just say, I love the microwave and the toaster oven.
One Pan Lasagne. Really.
Measuring cup, a spoon or 2, grated or sliced cheeses (about a pound or less, use less if you want to use some cottage or ricotta cheese, or some cream cheese), a jar of spaghetti sauce (or make a quart of your own), a bottle of tomato juice, some water, oil, a box of lasagne noodles (those long ones),  foil, an oven, and one lonely little 13" x 9" baking pan.
Here we go........ Turn the oven on to 350 degrees to pre-heat.
First, Pour into the baking pan about a Tablespoon of oil and a 1/2 Cup of water.
Start to lay down a layer of DRY lasagne noodles, pour on about 1/3 of the spaghetti sauce, and over that spread 1/3 of your cheese(s). (here's where I added that spinach)
Repeat this 2 or 3 times.
Finish up with some sprinkles of grated cheese.
Here's the big secret: Pour 1 cup of tomato juice down the sides of the pan that is now full of raw lasagne goodness. Really. See pictures below. Cover this amazing goodness with foil,
put it in your hot 350 degree oven for a half hour, then take off the foil, and continue baking for 15 minutes more. Turn off the oven, and let the lasagne rest for 15 minutes or so, before enjoying!

So, here's what I used.....a jar of Artichoke Okie dokie spaghetti sauce, a can of spinach, some sour cream ( I forgot to buy ricotta!), some Parmesan, a chunk of cheddar, and a box of lasagne noodles.
You have my permission to add olives or whatever. Personally, I think olives are great, but they are really best when put on your fingertips while pretending you are Mickey Mouse.
That doesn't make much sense, but that's what we did as kids, before they invented video tapes.

 Here we go....layering layering layering.........

Instead of boring old tomato juice......I used V8. "I could have had a V8!"

Now I am pouring the V8 on the sides.......Really!

Then I covered it with foil......use your imagination, and popped it in the oven and set the timer.......
And since I had the V8 juice already out........and I had extra in my measuring cup....Oh what the hell! Let's get out the vodka!!!
and make a Kitchen Bloody Mary, with Don't Forgetta the Mezzetta !
plop in a few chunks of the Mezzetta veggie goodness and Vodka !

Mezzetta Italian Mix Giardiniera vegetables......
Yes, another thing from my hometown!

Is the lasagne cool? yes. well, then ....
Oh My Gosh !! Yum Yum Yum.......yum yum yum ....yum......
That's it. I swear. Be sure to let it cool, and then eat it.
You can make this ahead, like in the morning.... and bake later, or bake it and save it!
I'd also like to remind you ....I did this without a staff....no stylist, no photo editor,  and just a point and shoot camera.
That's how I roll......or layer, whatev'.

I love Levis......

I love them. I've always loved them. I have made soooo many things from old Levis.....Levis jeans, Levis skirts, Levis tote bag, bits of indigo denim to patch kids pants, holes in the knees, and holes on the derriere. I had a tidy little business years ago making things.......I made Tuxedo coats from Levis jeans, I made suit jackets from Levis jeans, and appliqued and embroidered them .... a lot.
The best jeans in the world are Levis.
The Levis historian is Lynn Downey, and she is my age, exactly. She has my dream job.
Here's a bunch of ebay auctions for .....

Winnebago Kitchen...and now the dishes

and now ....the dishes .....
The Food Delivery System Accessories.

These are the wonderful dishes! ooooo pretty gray, deep coral, dark green and chartreuse....
Years ago, I had 44 million pieces of Melmac...all colors, all shapes, all eras, all brands, and I used to set them up in the Cutest displays....I was sure Melmac, in the 80s and 90s, was destined to become the Next Fiesta Ware. I was ... a bit ahead of the times.
Now, Melmac is really making a retro comeback, like all vintage is suddenly very mainstream. This makes me very happy. I look like far less of a weirdo. I still am a weirdo...just less of a lonely one!  ;-)

This is one of my favorite Melmac patterns, colorways.... Nice weight, roomy finger holes in the coffee cups. Great colors !!
"Watertown Lifetime Ware

Heavy-duty Melamine Tableware
Molded to Meet CS 173-50 of Industry"
Here is a great website that will inform you of everything you need to know about Melmac!

here's the set we ordered from an etsy seller........and I won't tell you WHO it was because I am not happy with my purchase. The small pieces are OK, but the dinner plates (the most important pieces) were scratched and ruined beyond use, because of years of cutting MEAT!
Those won't be used because bacteria can hide in the deep scratches. Beware of sellers who don't know ass from elbow.  Now, I have to find some nice plates.

****************************************************

Melamine resin dishes, most often called Melmac, are always in bright cheery colors!
They are almost unbreakable and are very lightweight.
But......they aren't for the Microwave or the Oven or the Stove top......don't even.
They are  thermoset so melamine resin cannot be melted but that makes them hard to recycle. Well to melt them down or shred and recycle like we do with other plastic.
So, I'll do something cute and practical with the scratched dishes I have.

Here's a few pics of the new curtains.......
with the burlap sheers......

I also changed the light switch cover......so glam!

here's a little cowgirl touch........a 50s leather fringe pillow......so rumpus room!

oo oo oo, looking out my back door........and a nice pic of the big rick-rack I glued to the shade....matches the window over the sink.......

Kitchen ...

The coffee can makes me happy for these reasons:

I love this coffee! Cafe Du Monde, the original coffee served in French New Orleans....... It has chicory, which mellows the taste. And....as a container for my tools, it was Free!
I used a big magnet on the inside to make it stick to my stove...and not slide around while driving.
That is something you always have to think about with anything that goes in an RV or trailer, or a boat.
